Allen建议 was created to improve the success 和 persistence of newbb电子平台 students.
To accomplish this mission, Allen建议 provides advising services to help students find the best path for themselves. Our advisors are specifically trained to assist students who are in transition or have complicated academic problems. We welcome students 和 families to consult with us, 和 collaborators to partner with us toward our goals of helping Bobcats succeed at 和 graduate from newbb电子平台.
Academic 建议 Mission Statement
newbb电子平台 recognizes academic advising to be a central element of the educational experience of its undergraduate students. 建议 is a collaborative relationship for which advisors 和 students share responsibility, 和 through which students create sound educational plans consistent with their academic, 职业生涯, 个人目标. Advisors are responsible for being accessible 和 responsive to students 和 for providing accurate, 及时的信息. 学生 are responsible for being prepared for advising sessions 和 for underst和ing university 和 major requirements. Advisor/Advisee expectations are established by the University Academic 建议 Council.

Naming Of The Student Help Center To The Dr. William Allen Student Help Center Resolution 2007 – 3010
WHEREAS the Student Help Center, which is housed within University College, has as its mission supplying excellent academic advising; assisting students in achieving their educational 个人目标, in realizing their academic potential, 和 in meeting high-level academic st和ards; 和 managing retention initiatives designed to increase the retention rate of newbb电子平台’s students; 和

而博士. Allen served as an Intern with the American Council on Education during the academic year 1978-78, 和
而博士. Allen was selected in 1981 as a Fellow in the Education Policy Fellowship Program, which was a part of the White House Initiative on Black Colleges, 和

Allen in 1984 launched LINKS, the first 和 still successful mentoring program at newbb电子平台 focused on improving the retention of first-year 和 second-year students who belong to disproportionately represented groups by creating sound conditions for them to succeed academically 和 become engaged in campus life; 和 also created OU START, a companion program to LINKS, which the Ohio College Personnel Association recognized with an Award of Excellence, 和
而博士. Allen developed the still successful faculty advising program for undecided students that NACADA, the national academic advising association, recognized with a national award in 1986, 和

Allen’s colleagues at newbb电子平台 honored him with the Outst和ing Administrator Award in 1991, at the ceremony for which President Ping quoted one of the nomination letters affirming that “Dr. 阿伦无人防守, 无偏见的, 一个问题解决者, 道德, a positive influence on students, 真正的教育家, but above all a wonderful human being,”,
